The Liberty Explorer 30
Liberty is a huge name in the gunsafe industry, and claim to make Americas number 1 selling safe. There is no doubt that Liberty make fantastic products, as well as a very wide range of products.
They manufacture safes in the US in a dedicated factory, and that made in the USA sticker is one of the features of Liberty safes.
But not all the Liberty safes are made in America. A number of them are in fact made in China, the obvious advantage of that being the price, just about anything made in China is cheaper than the same product made in the US.
The Liberty Explorer 30 range of safes is made in China.
It has some reasonable features, for example it has some fire protection, specifically 30 minutes at 1200 degrees.
And the range caters for users who are looking to store anywhere from 14 to 30 long guns.
Despite all this the features of the Liberty Explorer 30 range of safes are relatively modest, and this is really an entry level safe.
So is it worth buying a Chinese made Liberty Explorer 30? Do the features stack up for the price?

The Barska AX11556 Biometric Fingerprint Safe
Barska is a well known company, making, amongst other things, a wide range of smaller biometric and electronically operated gun safes.
One of these is the Barska AX11556. This is a small top opening biometric safe.
Whether or not you need a safe like this depends on how many guns you wish to store, because this particular safe will only store 1 or 2 handguns.
However for many people this is a plus. They own a small collection of home defence weapons, and they would also like to store some other small valuables safely such as documents or jewellery.
For that reason many of the small Barska safes sell well, including the Barska AX11556.
There are issues, however, with many small safes. Its very important that small safes either be hidden away safely or secured to something solid.
Barska offer a number of different options to cater for these important considerations.
Read our full review of the Barska AX11556 to find out whether or not this small safe will meet your requirements to store a small number of weapons and valuables securely.
The V-Line Quick Access Long Gun and Shotgun Case
Many people are happy to have a handgun as a home defence weapon. Others prefer something a little more significant, like a shotgun. Or perhaps you own 1 rifle.
Of course your choice of home defence weapon is up to you, but if youre one of those people that has a shotgun or rifle at home then security requires that you have it securely locked up in a gun cabinet that gives you quick access in the event of necessity but also gives you sufficient security to keep that weapon away from prying eyes and the fingers of children.
One option you have in these circumstances is to look at the V-Line range of rifle cabinets designed to house either a single rifle or a single shotgun.
V-Line are respected sheetmetal manufacturer who have been manufacturing products in Simi Valley in California for 3 decades. They make a very wide range of security cabinets amongst other things.
Both these products, the V-Line rifle case and the shotgun rifle case are specifically designed to house one single weapon.
The design of the rifle case is intended to accommodate AR-15 rifles and a shot gun case is intended to accommodate a shotgun with a barrel up to 18 1/2 inches.
If you own either of those weapons then the V-Line rifle or shot gun case may well be a great option for you.
The Stack-On SS-22-MG-C
Stack-On is a well respected company in the gun safe industry. They make a wide range of products and the range includes much more than simply gun safes.
Their range of firearm security products is quite impressive ranging from relatively small safes, or what they were rightly call gun cabinets, right up to full-blown safes offering the optimum protection for your firearms as well as storing a significant number of weapons.
It comes somewhere in the middle of the range of security cabinets, lockers and safes made by Stack-On. It is relatively large, holding to 22 rifles or shotguns up to 54 inches tall.
It has 4 adjustable shelves which can be arranged so that the cabinet can fit all firearms, or half firearms and storage, or all storage. There is also shelf space above the firearms for such things as ammunition and valuables like documents and jewelry.
But this safe is made in China.
It is not particularly expensive but then again it is not fire rated.
So if you have a significant number of firearms and are looking for storage for up to 22 rifles or shotguns should you consider buying the Stack-On SS-22-MG-C made in China gun safe?
The Browning Medallion Series M28
They also sell gun safes.
In fact Browning do not manufacture their own firearm security products. They are actually manufactured by Pro Steel, another US manufacturer, and are marketed under the Browning name.
Of course that doesnt mean that they are poor quality just because they are manufactured by another company, in fact Pro Steel make quality products, and the Browning Medallion series of gun safes are quality products.
They offer a very wide range of features, both security features and convenience features.
For example there is an excellent adjustable shelving system with a new pistol rack and their DPX door storage system is absolutely excellent.
But theres no doubt that a Browning gun safe is not cheap, and that certainly applies to the Browning Medallion M28.
The Barska Quick Access Biometric Rifle Safe
We have already suggested that if you have a single home defence rifle or shotgun then one cabinet that you could consider is the V-Line quick access long gun case.
However if you have 2 rifles, or for that matter 2 shotguns, that cabinet wont suit your needs because it will only fit 1 firearm.
And for that matter if you have 1 firearm now, but think there is a good possibility that the number might increase to 2 or 3 in the future then you might consider the Barska quick access biometric rifle safe.
The V-Line rifle case is operated by push button, whereas the Barska is by biometrically operated, in other words operated by recognition of your fingerprint. Biometric operation is very fast, typically you could open your rifle case in 1 or 2 seconds. And sometimes seconds count.
The Barska rifle safe will hold, according to Barska, up to 4 rifles and it has barrel rests for 4 rifles, though as we like to point out the holding capacity can vary, particularly if any of your weapons have a scope. However either way the Barska will hold more weapons than the V-Line.
We like the Barska for several reasons, one being the slightly increased storage capacity. Another is the barrel rests, as well as the internal configuration which allows you to have a storage shelf if you wish for ammo.
But its not fire rated, and lets say you have 3 rifle stored in it, you then have a significant amount of money invested in those weapons. You wouldnt want to lose them.
So is the Barska quick access rifle safe a good buy? What are the pros and what other cons of this product? And how does it differ from the V-Line?
The Stack-On GCB-18C
The Stack-On GCB-18C is not a gun safe.
To be fair Stack-On do not call it a gun safe, on their website it is simply called a cabinet, and this is accurate. It will not offer you the security features of a genuine safe.
Of course not everyone wants the security features of a genuine safe and not everyone can afford to buy one.
Thats why theres a very wide range of security cabinets, lockers and cases available to purchase for the storage of firearms.
Because many people are happy with a much cheaper option than a full blown gun safe.
However the GCB-18C is a large cabinet, and Stack-On claim that it will hold up to 18 firearms up to 54 inches tall, or alternatively a smaller number of firearms and more storage, or maximum storage with a very small number of firearms.
If you have up to 18 firearms to store then you might consider whether or not you should be investing in a serious gun safe. For a start a simple cabinet will not protect your weapons, or your valuables, against fire.
And whilst it will give you some simple protection against being broken into it is unlikely to withstand the efforts of a serious burglar, and you have a significant number of weapons to lose.
But a gun cabinet such as this one still has its uses, and there are still plenty of people who are happy to buy a cabinet for a significant number of firearms, and other valuables, and who are happy to purchase a cabinet at a significantly reduced price compared to the cost of a serious safe.
And if that describes you then one of the cabinets that is worth considering is the Stack-On GCB-18C.
The Stack-On 22 gun waterproof gun safe
One of the major considerations for optimum gun security is fireproofing. Just about any house can catch fire and if your weapons are stored in a gun safe that is not fireproof then chances are if the house burns so do your guns.
For some people waterproofing is not important, but for others waterproofing is just as important as fireproofing. If your house is in a flood prone area then it may be as likely to suffer floods as it is to suffer fire.
And there are other circumstances where a house can suffer from flooding, for example where you have a burst water pipe.
Of course how much your gun safe is at risk of flooding also depends on where you mount it.
If waterproofing is important to you then there are a few, though not many, waterproof safes on the market. One of these is the Stack-On 22 gun waterproof safe, one of the Stack-On Total Defence range of gun safes, all of which offer waterproofing.
