Protein shakes are very popular right now but it’s hard to find one with good healthy ingredients. A lot of them are full of artificial ingredients and sweeteners and it can be tough to avoid these unnecessary additives.
Vega one is a plant based protein product that I’ve been using for a while so I figured it was time to write a review.
For those who haven’t heard of it, it’s a powder that is aimed at meal replacement. Overall, it is a great product and it provides a healthy substitute for a meal.
It’s dairy, gluten and soy free – this is a pretty great sales feature for a lot of people and it is suitable for vegans.
I’ve recommended their products in other articles because it’s natural and plant based. When it comes to protein shakes, you’re usually getting milk based proteins (whey or casein) or soy based proteins.
With respect to milk based products, I definitely use them, but I don’t like to use them every day because I try to limit my dairy intake.
So when you cut those out, that really only leaves plant based powders. In that category, I think it is probably the best product out there.
I currently take it most days for breakfast, but it could be used to replace other meals or just as something to hold you over between meals.
It’s got 15 grams of powder and 50% of your daily intake of vitamins and minerals. Those are pretty good stats for a meal replacement powder in my opinion.
As I said above, this top brand isn’t designed for post-workout recovery, it’s more for meal replacement. This is because it’s only got 15 grams.
That being said, this could be sufficient for some women since we usually don’t need as much protein as men do, depending on how big you are (the amount of protein you need is usually based on your body size). I don’t personally use it for my after-workout shake though.
Another great feature of this top brand that is a well rounded supplement in terms of it’s nutrition and can replace other supplements like a multi-vitamin, etc., if you’re also taking them.
In terms of price, it’s reasonable based on the high quality ingredients, but you’ll find that it’s a bit more expensive than other powders.
I’ll pay a bit more to know that I’m getting healthy ingredients. But if you’re looking to save some money, this probably isn’t the product for you. You can usually get it for between $50-60 for a tub, depending where you go.
A comparable product is the raw meal protein powder, which I have also started using. If you’re looking for a plant based meal supplement, this is also a great option if it doesn’t work for you.
In terms of taste, I think this top brand is a pretty good tasting powder. Protein powders don’t usually taste amazing, but I think this top brand is more than tolerable and I would say it’s one of the better powders I’ve tasted. But it certainly doesn’t taste like a pice of chocolate cake – let’s just get our expectations to realistic levels here.
When you consider the fact that they limit the unnecessary ingredients like sweeteners and artificial flavours, it tastes really good. They have 5 flavours: Chocolate, Vanilla Chai, French Vanilla, Natural, and Berry. I like the vanilla chai flavour, so I’d recommend you start with that if you’re going to try it out.
In terms of the texture, I recommend that you mix it in a bit more than you might with some other shakes otherwise it will be clumpy. But it eventually mixes in just fine and the texture is great. You can also mix it in with a smoothie and it works really well.
Conclusion: Great Product Overall
Overall, if you’re looking for a convenient nutritional supplement, it is a great product. A protein shake can never fully compensate for a healthy balanced diet, but it does more than any other shake I’ve tried.
It has become a big part of my diet and I’d recommend it to anyone who is looking to supplement their diet.
