Pre-workout supplements give you a boost of energy before and during your workout. They also help you stay focused so you can get the most out of your time at the gym.
Like most supplements, pre-workout supplement for women are usually designed for men. But the market is changing and there are a number of new products that are aimed at women.
In this article, we’ve reviewed a handful of nutrition and set out our opinion of the top ones for women in particular.
We all know the feeling when we don’t get everything we can out of our workout. It’s frustrating when we don’t quite have the energy or focus to really push ourselves.
On the other hand, you know the feeling when you can tell it’s going to be a great workout because you’re ready and focused.
That’s where pre workout supplements come in. They can get you ready to go for each and every workout. This can maximize the benefits of your workout regime.
Our Recommendations for the Best nutrition on the market for Women:
We’ve written elsewhere about the effectiveness of pre workout supplements, so let’s get down to some recommendations about what to look for in the pre workout products on the market.
When looking for a supplement, there are a number of features that you should look for. You don’t want a supplement with too many stimulants.
You want a nice, controlled energy boost that doesn’t come with a crash at the end. There are a number of natural products that can achieve this goal.
Some contain creatine and some don’t – you’ll have to determine what you’re looking for. If you’re just starting out, you might want to begin with a creatine-free product.
You also have to keep in mind that people react differently to particular nutrition. So if you have a bad reaction to one product, try a different one.
There are plenty of different nutrition out there so you’ll definitely find one that works.
You don’t absolutely need a supplement product that is designed just for women, but it’s something that may be helpful.
Men’s nutrition are aimed for bulking up (with things like creatine, for instance, in some of them) while some of the women’s nutrition are aimed more at burning fat, for example.
If you are going to use a unisex product though, just be careful about the serving size.
You may want to start with a half serving because women are obviously usually smaller than men and will not likely need quite as much.
In terms of taste, I find that they taste better than some of the other supplements I’ve used, like protein powder and creatine, for example.
But I usually take effectiveness over taste if I have to make the trade-off. Usually the ones that taste really great have too many additives and sweeteners, so taste isn’t usually something I prioritize that much (though I think we can all agree that some of them are just awful!).
Here are the products that we think are the top nutrition for females. They’re all slightly different, but definitely great nutrition:
1. Fitmiss Ignite:
- Ignite is a pre-workout supplement designed directly for women. It tastes awesome and gives you more energy, focus and strength. A great all round product.
- 8.9/10 rating on bodybuilding.com
- Good value – great product for a reasonable price.
- We’ve updated the list and moved Ignite to the top!
2. Vega Sport Preworkout Energizer:
- Vega is known for its great, natural products. Comes in two flavours: lemon lime and acai berry (I’ve only tried the lemon lime and it’s pretty good, in my opinion).
- It will allow you to train longer and won’t give you any kind of “crash” afterwards.
- This is a unisex product, so it’s not designed just for females. But it’s totally suitable for women.
- I take this about 30 minutes before a workout and I find that it allows me to work out for longer. I don’t feel any real extra push doing individual exercises, but I find that I can maintain my higher capacity for longer.
3. Uplift Pre-workout Energizer by NLA For Her
- Uplift offers a healthy pre-workout supplement that is also made specifically for women.
- A great product that will give you an extra push in your workouts. It aims to increase energy and focus and it’s a relatively newer product on the market.
These are the products that we recommend. Do you have any experience with these pre-workout supplements? Let us know in the comments below. Check out this article for more info about the specific ingredients you may want to look for in a pre-workout supplement.
How women should it:
You’re going to want to take these products between 15 – 30 minutes before your workout so it has time to kick in.
Each product has slightly different instructions, so make sure you read the package to be sure how to achieve the best results.
Based on your reaction to the supplement, adjust when you take it. Some take longer than others to kick in everyone reacts to them differently.
Be aware that a lot of pre-workout supplements contain caffeine and this can affect your sleeping patterns if you take them close to bedtime. Just don’t take them right before bed or you might be up all night. They’re great for morning workouts, but I’d avoid them for workouts after dinner.
But caffeine is still a helpful ingredient for pre-workout supplements.
You also don’t want to use these for every workout because you can start to develop a tolerance. Try and use them only when you feel you need an extra boost before your workout.
If you’re already feeling focussed and full of energy, don’t bother taking it. I actually found that, after about 8-10 uses, I felt like I got a bit less of a push from them.
Overall, pre-workout supplements are a great way to get more out of your workout for those days when you need that extra push.
You may have to try a few products before you find one that gives you the right amount of energy and focus. The ones described above are a great place to start.
A good pre-workout supplement combined with your post-workout protein, and you’ll get even more out of your workouts than you ever thought possible!
